No Forced Evictions at Pasay City

             In an effort to upgrade the slum areas within the City of Pasay, Mayor Antonino G. Calixto announced in an executive meeting with its HHRO Officials (Housing and Homesite Regulation Office) through Atty. Severo C. Madrona Jr., OIC-HHRO and Mr Oliver Johanes Natividad, Executive Director-HHRO that he wanted to uplift the morale of the informal settlers along Tripa de Gallina, Maricaban Creek and Gotamco Street. “The Tanay Resettlement Projects is near completion for the benefit of the informal settlers of our city, let us together join hands in making our riverside, creeks and sidewalks free from informal settlers and turn it to an environment-friendly area for the protection of our ecosystem”.

             In response to the City Mayor’s appeal, Mr. Natividad informed Mayor Calixto that various household verification activities are now being undertaken by HHRO, “We are now 80% complete with our household verification of the informal settlers living at Gotamco Street, Tripa de Galina and Maricaban Creeks. People in the said areas are most likely positive in their relocation and that we will no longer implement forced evictions in the said areas, they are willing to undertake voluntary demolition from their residences as long as the relocation site is ready” Atty. Madrona also informed the City Mayor that the slum areas within the city would be free from informal settlers by early next year, “We are also planning to conduct various General Assemblies for the readiness of the relocation site.” Madrona and Natividad, both in-charge of the city’s housing projects are also appealing other slum areas to embrace the city’s housing project Sitio San Pero at Tanay, Rizal, Natividad also announced the new slogan of HHRO which is “Aksyon at Galing sa mga Cominidad, Bagong Umaga sa Bagong Pasay” and also the Livelihood Program slogan of Congresswoman Emi Calixto-Rubiano “Epektibo at Maunlad na mga Indibidwal, Proyektong Pangkabuhayan handog no Cong. Emi Calixto-Rubiano” will be used in the house tagging of various urban poor housing projects of Pasay City. The Livelihood Program will be given by Cong. Emi Calixto-Rubiano to qualified beneficiaries in each housing project to help the informal settlers adjust in their relocation and community areas.
