Calixto urges PNoy to ok Single Ticketing System

Pasay City Mayor Antonino “Tony” G. Calixto called on President Benigno S. Aquino III to approve the resolution of the Metro Manila mayors adopting a uniform or single ticketing system for traffic violations in Metro Manila.

Calixto recently hosted at the Pasay City Hall the meeting of the Metro Manila Council composed of all Metro Manila mayors where the resolution was adopted. The resolution was approved following a presentation and dialogue with DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo who said that he will present the matter for the President’s approval.

The mayor said that the proposal of the said ticketing system can help in terms of improving traffic in the 17 local government units that comprise Metro Manila.

He also said that the scheme will help reduce corruption in the enforcement of traffic laws. “At present, there are different traffic rules in the different LGUs in Metro Manila. Suppose, a traffic violator has been apprehended by a traffic enforcer and his driver’s license was confiscated in Pasay City and he passes through Paranaque City, where he committed a violation again, therefore he could no longer present his license. That is where the problem lies. The tendency of the traffic violator will be to try to bribe the traffic enforcer. And, this is one of the causes of corruption,” he explained.

He said that he strongly supports the implementation of the unified traffic ticketing system to clean up and rationalize the system of traffic enforcement not only in Pasay but across the metropolitan Manila. “This proposal will consolidate traffic fines and penalties and there will be a uniform traffic ticket to be used by all traffic operatives of the MMDA and the LGUs which shall be recognized metro-wide,” he said.

“This will benefit not only the LGUs but also the motorists who will no longer be confused by different rules,” he concluded.
